BASKIN-ROBBINS LAUNCHES “CAKES FOR THE COMMUNITY” INITIATIVEFOR GREATER TORONTO AREA SHOPS

TORONTO, Canada (September 1, 2014) – Baskin-Robbins launches today “Cakes for the Community,” a month-long campaign to raise funds for The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto. As part of the campaign, Baskin-Robbins is introducing a limited edition heart-shaped cake decorated in the colours of SickKids, teal or blue trimmed with white. The cake retails for $14.95, and 31% of the sales price (excluding tax) from each cake will be donated to SickKids over the course of the fundraiser. These special cakes can be customized with each guest’s favorite ice cream flavour from Baskin-Robbins’ extensive line-up.

“We’re proud to continue our relationship with SickKids and to give back to the community in this special way,” said Rick Woods, Vice President of Operations, Baskin-Robbins Canada and U.S. “The funds raised over the course of our ‘Cakes for the Community’ campaign will help SickKids in its important work to improve the health of children across the Greater Toronto Area and throughout the country.”

In addition, Baskin-Robbins franchisees will collect in-store donations throughout the month of September to benefit SickKids Foundation. Guests who make an in-store donation will be given a decorative paper cake on which to sign their name and post in their neighborhood Baskin-Robbins shop. The paper cakes will serve as a visual that showcases the collaborated effort of the local community and Baskin-Robbins to bring health and happiness to children.

“The support we receive from corporate partners like Baskin-Robbins helps make our work in improving the lives of children possible,” said Ted Garrard, President and CEO, SickKids Foundation. “We’re grateful for Baskin-Robbins’ support, and the funds raised as part of the ‘Cakes for the Community’ program will have a real and lasting impact on the wellbeing of children in our community and beyond.”

This is the second year that Baskin-Robbins has raised funds for SickKids. In 2013, the company held a similar event, Cones for the Community, which raised close to $50,000 for the hospital. The company hopes to match or exceed last year’s total over the course of this year’s campaign.
