Baskin-Robbins Canada partners with Canadian Blood Services to offer Ottawa-area blood donors free ice cream

TORONTO, June 29, 2021- To mark National Ice Cream Month and encourage Canadians to give blood, Baskin-Robbins Canada pilots this July a partnership with Canadian Blood Services to offer persons who donate blood a free 4ounce scoop of ice cream at their nearest Ottawa-area Baskin-Robbins shop.

“As hospitals resume procedures that were put on hold due to COVID-19, the need for blood rises,” says Kristine Haselsteiner, Associate Director Canadian Blood Services. “It is crucial to receive consistent donations as the donated blood only lasts 42 days and yet every 60 seconds a Canadian is in need of blood. We could not thank Baskin-Robbins enough for helping us get the message out and recognizing those who generously answer the call.”

Donors who visit any of Canadian Blood Services permanent facilities or temporary donation clinics will receive a coupon upon leaving their appointment. Baskin-Robbins has seven shops in the Greater Ottawa Area that will honour the coupons, which can be used for any of the brand’s 31 flavours.

“We are delighted to encourage people to give blood, especially after the periods of physical distancing we’ve experienced,” says Natalie Joseph, spokesperson from Baskin-Robbins Canada. “We’re meant for connections and feel our best when we help each other. We are happy to offer this small token of our appreciation and hope the pilot will flourish into a growing partnership in the years to come.”

Canadian Blood Services has ordered 4000 coupons as part of this pilot program – and hopes it will give even more in the years to come. The monthly average number of donors donating blood in the Ottawa area is 4000.
