Baskin-Robbins opens 100th shop in Canada

TORONTO Ont., December 20, 2018 – Baskin-Robbins, the world’s largest chain of specialty ice cream shops, has opened its 100th location in Canada, building on a recent wave of growth, remodelled and improved locations, new partnerships, innovations and announcements regarding future expansion in the country.

“We’ve got great ingredients for growth and renewed success in Canada,” says Natalie Joseph, representative for Baskin-Robbins in Canada. “The Baskin-Robbins brand has a lot of loyal followers across the country and we absolutely love them back. There’s a lot of passion and energy in and for our Canadian operations. In the past few years, we’ve really increased our investments in Canada and it’s given us and our loyal fans something to celebrate.”

The opening of the 100th shop, in the Hamilton area (999 Upper Wentworth St., at Hamilton’s Lime Ridge Mall), follows the brand’s recent announcement of 18 new store development agreements with six new and existing franchise groups. Expansion is currently centered on Ontario, but the company is extending its gaze to numerous markets in other provinces.

“Our shops in Montreal, Winnipeg and Vancouver are doing well and we’re experiencing a steady stream of interest from franchisees throughout the country,” says Joseph.

Baskin-Robbins first set up shop in Canada in 1971. The brand experienced headwinds from 2010 to 2013, but stabilized the business successfully with a roster of dedicated and talented franchisees and a product assortment that has continued to withstand the test of time.

“Quality and innovation have always been core values at Baskin-Robbins,” explains Joseph. “It’s clear Canadians appreciate these values and have come to trust us over the years. We won’t let them down. They can expect many good and new product innovations and an expanded beverage line up in the months and years ahead.”

Over the past five years, Dunkin’ Brands, parent company of Baskin-Robbins, has invested in its franchisees as well as renovating all locations across the country. These renovations included a complete redesign of its interior – new counters and display tables – as well an upgraded LED menu featuring a clean and slick design. The company has also developed multi-year partnerships with groups such as Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada, invested in local agencies and launched an assortment of Canadian promotions for National Ice Cream Month, Valentine’s Day and the back-to-school season.

The network of 78 Baskin-Robbins franchisees across the country currently employ more than 1,000 Canadians.

Baskin-Robbins is actively looking for talented and passionate entrepreneurs to join its successful roster of Canadian franchisees. To learn more about franchising opportunities with Baskin-Robbins, visit www.baskinrobbins.ca/franchising.
